Hey guys, i wanted to make a thread about anime that doesn't get much of the lime-light(or seems that way). post a short synopsis of the story and what you think about it/why it may not be as popular. This thread will primarily be for discovering new anime and or passing along knowledge.
I'm going to start with Bakemonogatari. Not exactly the most "underground" but i like it none the less. The basic story is that of a semi-vampire named koyomi araragi, a very apathetic teenager and his experiences with ghosts/monsters/aberrations/whatever you call them. Each episode is a different story sometimes taking 2 or 3 episodes. I think this anime isn't as popular with English speakers because of all the Japanese wordplay and puns. Which is harder to understand for people who don't speak Japanese. I don't think it'll be translated soon, or at least i haven't heard anything about it. Simply because it would be very difficult to capture the same humor it has in another language. *edit* i obviously don't know that much anime, but this thread is for everyone to share there knowledge of anime and let other people enjoy them. So get to it! *edit* This thread is now about sharing anime that you like, it can be obscure, or not, either way describe a brief synopsis of the plot.

I was always under the impression Bakemonogatari was rather popular.
If you've been on the forum long enough you've heard me rant on about Katanagatari like a raging faggot. It seemed rather obscure to me. Of course I haven't seen since it first came out, so I don't know how much notoriety it might have accumulated since. The plot isn't anything to make note of, but for thread's sake it's about these two who go on a sword hunt. Eh, there's more to it than that but nipples. I can easily see someone being turned off from the series from the first two episodes. They drag on at a rather slow pace, the second in particular, filled with inane drivel of little interest. Top that with the fact that each episode is approximately 45 minutes long it can easily deter potential viewers. The art style takes a while to get used to as well, or at least it did for myself. After a while it grew on me though. Pros would be some decent action moments and a ballin' OST. I still can't find the second one on Youtube. :'|

Well this is the first time i've ever even heard someone else mention bakemonogatari so as far as i knew it wasn't popular at all. But i always assumed it was popular enough since it has 2 spin-off series.
Katangatari sounds interesting enough, if the art style is unique and interesting it'll keep my interest.
The next anime i wanna mention is one that i know is popular enough for funimation to buy the rights to it. "Cashern Sins" A very strangely animated/paced anime about a a post-apocolyptic world largely inhabited my sentient robots. The main character Cashern apparently performed some great treachery that brought "death" into the world. Up to that point the robots never died and now they are gripped by some force that causes them to disintegrate. A very dark, foreboding and sometimes depressing anime but the art style kept me watching it.

Cashern Sins? Never heard of that one. I'll look into it. By your request; Ergo Proxy. About some post-apocalyptic world in which humans struggle to survive, inhospitable as it is. Vincent Law, an inept immigrant goes on a journey to find out who he really is and blah blah blah. It's similar to Cashern Sins in theme, dark and often bleak. No idea why it isn't necessarily well known, as it appeals to pretentious youths like myself. I cried like a child when Raul Creed died. :'|

sounds cool,
Now here's an anime where every time i bring it up people are like "What?" Togari, Is the story of a kid around the age of 16 who was a mass murderer in japan named Tobi, i think during the waring states period but i could be wrong, who had no concept of remorse or pity. once he was caught and beheaded he found out there is an afterlife and was doomed to spend the rest of eternity in hell. But even in hell Tobi shows no remorse and is given a deal by the warden, if he can collect 108 toga(the physical encarnation of people's sins) in 108 days with a wooden sword named togari he will be released from hell and live again. A very interesting anime with really cool twists throughout it. The art style is very unique it almost looks like ink drawings.

I wouldn't call ergo proxy obscure; the setting and topics covered are certainly outside the cut and paste 'cute girls doing cute things' genre that's always been popular, but that doesn't make it particularly unknown - or diminish how unabashedly good it is at times.

In my opinion, you're all faggoty faggots with no lives who watch anime to get a boner from all the loli's. Now, back to the normal me. One word douchbages. Kaiji. Just. Kaiji. Do it. Do it now. No long paragraph shit about how good it is, right here, right now.

Well that escalated quickly kain. XD Pulse it doesn't matter if "you" would consider it obscure or not. The only way for other people to tell if "obscure" or not is to have experience with other people know it. Like my experiences with bakemonogatari, cashern sins, and Togari. Obviously other people have heard of them. But i don't know who and i want to spread the word about good anime. I guess i shouldn't have named it "obscure anime" because i guess it's hard to understand sharing anime you think are good with other people.

Saw some of Kaiji. The arc on the Espoir was pretty cash, but after that when Kaiji becomes a whiny emo faggot I lost interest rather quickly. It was nice while it lasted.
Edit: Finished Kaiji. Weep tears; acquire feels.
Also, I like dicks.

Toradora - The sweetest thing you will ever fucking see and one of my favorites. Get a bucket of ice cream first - www.watchanimeon.com/toradora-episode-1/Kemonozume - Very dark and deep, the story is kinda fucked but the art style makes up for it a crazy shit ton. Be warned, has lots of sex - www.watchanimeon.com/kemonozume-episode-1/Lupin the 3rd - A classic anime. Watch the old stuff before the new stuff. And the movies too.
