Back in the days of the original forum, a young boy saw a new thread that was posted. This thread promised laughs, excitement, danger, adventure, and most of all, fun with friends! The young boy signed up for this new and exciting idea, which was known as a "Role-Play." In this, "Role-Play", the young man made a character, along with his trusted companion, and set off on a grand adventure!
The adventure went smoothly for quite some time, and in fact, it went so well that the young man thought to himself, "Gee, it sure would be fun to host my own Role-Play! In fact, I'll start one right now!" And do you know what happened next? It was a fucking disaster that got deleted the day it was posted.
FOLLOW THESE GUIDELINES AND IT MIGHT NOT HAPPEN TO YOU!

Before we start with the guidelines however, I feel as though I should give a quick introduction to form Role-Playing, or RPing for short.
Forum RPing is like an interactive story, in that you take your character and have them react to a multitude of situations that were set up by the Game Master, or GM for short.
You start off by making a character, and posting them in the sign up sheet for the RP that you'd like to join. (I'll go into more detail later.)
After your character is posted, and the GM confirms that you're in, you're probably thinking, "Now wait, what the hell do I do?" Read below to find out!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
#1: Please Use Proper Grammar and Spelling.
Look, I know this might seem pointless to some people, but keep in mind that you're not the only one who's going to be reading your posts that you make, and it's MUCH easier for the GM, or other players to read a post that's actually legible.
#2: No God-Modding.
This is fairly straight forward, don't control things that you're not supposed to, or make things happen that you aren't supposed to make happen. For instance, say you're in an RP, and your group comes across a giant 20 foot tall ogre. You might be tempted to just rowlpwn that bitch right back to its mother's basement, but think about it for a moment. The GM probably sent it out to challenge the party, not for you to flash your e-penis in front of everyone. Take it up with the GM if your attack can hit or not, and if they aren't around? Throw an attack, but don't give the outcome. Here's an example...
Fallout dashed forward toward the rampaging demon, fully intent on stopping its mad charge. He drew his blades, lunging at the beast's head with all of his momentum and might.
See? I didn't post the outcome of the attack, leaving the GM to decide what happens.
Another example of God-Modding is controlling something that's not your character, such as the world, or NPCs. If you want to, always, I repeat, ALWAYS, ask the GM if it's alright before you do. Another more important one, you shouldn't control the other player's characters at all. It's the other player's, not yours.
#3: Don't Sign Up If You're Not Willing to Commit to the RP.
Look, I know certain things come up that we can't help with in our real lives, but other times if you don't think you'll be able to commit to an RP, then don't bother signing up, unless it's a slower paced RP of course. If something does come up, and you'd still like to be in the RP? Try talking with the GM, and see if they can sideline your character for a bit while you go off and do your own thing.
#4: Creating a Character.
The most vital part of joining an RP, your character.
Your character should first and foremost, be interesting. More people will be willing to read your posts if you have a likeable character with a good backstory and all that jazz.
Also try and make it a character type that you'd like playing as. Wanna try being a quiet sociopath? How about a book worm that has an unhealthy addiction to cat piss? Or maybe even an over the top gun slinging wise cracker! It doesn't matter, so long as you're happy with them, and the GM approves.
Try and become the character when you post! If you have a completely different mindset than your character, then remember that when you post. Act like how you feel they would, and post not your own feelings, but what their's would be. It's called a role play for a reason people!
If you're still a bit confused, I'll help a bit with a sample character.
Name: John Smith
Age: 30
Backstory: Raised on a small farm until he was old enough to venture into the world, he travels around helping out whoever, and whenever he can.
Race: Human
Appearance: Tall and slim, with brown hair and green eyes. Has a distinctive scar on the back of his neck, that's mostly covered by his ponytail.
Personality: Care free, and kind. Gets bored if he's in one place for too long.
Abilities: Master of fire magic, and an excellent hand to hand fighter.
What you'll have to provide will vary from RP to RP, but this should give you the basic idea of things.
Whelp, that's all I can think of. If you're new to RPing, I hope this helps you with it. Feel free to post any questions you have below, and I'll do my best to answer them.
